I would have to say I do agree with part of the Prensky articles. I do think the education system was created for a different generation and although it is constantly evolving it is hard for EVERY school system to be able to keep up with technological changes in our society. Technology is expensive especially when it is brand new not all schools have the funds to keep up with the constant change in technology. I also think that the learners of today are not the learners of yesterday. This ties back into the education system being able to keep up with the constant change which seems impractical and out of reach.
I think that it is next to impossible to predict what my future learners will be like. I do think however they will be majorly involved with technology. I think that they will be even more knowledgeable about newer technology than I will be. They are constantly exposed to new technology and as an educator I will need to actively go out and try to find new and fresh ways to use technology to keep their interests and engage them. In addition I also think that the students in which we call the 21st century learners is bound to change and much sooner than some anticipate. I think that technology is evolving at a rapid rate and this in turn effects how we learn. I think future learners will be even more knowledgeable about certain technology and will be using more of it in the classroom. Even from the time I was in school till now has changed drastically. My little brother is in the 1st grade and has a smart board that is a major part of their learning in the classroom. When I was in grade school we didn’t even have dry erase boards. I didn’t see a smart board till senior year in high school and it was located in only one room and even at that point it was so unfamiliar it was rarely touched.
